Eligibility Requirements for Representation
- Must be a Fort Bend County case of criminal Misdemeanor or Felony;
- Defendant/Client must be defined as “indigent” according to the county-standard definitions
- Must have at least one major priority population diagnosis including schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, or major depression; or mental disability (mental retardation);
- The Mental Health Public Defender's Office or other attorney must be appointed by the Court to represent the defendant/client.
