One of the goals of the Fort Bend Geographic Information System (GIS), a facet of the Engineering department, is to provide the most updated GIS file information to both the public and private sector. Some of the GIS data is sensitive, although public information. Before we send you the FTP access codes, information about the requestor (you) will be needed. Once key personnel have reviewed your request for data, FTP access may or may not be granted.
If the information being requested is listed below, please contact that department directly as we cannot provide information regarding data that other entities maintain.
Request FTP Access
Email request to: GISengineer@fortbendcountytx.gov
Please include your:
- Name, Title, Phone Number and US Postal Address.
- Organization and whether it is public or private.
- statement of how Fort Bend County would benefit by accepting your data if you desire to upload files.
Following receipt and review of your request, you will receive an email back from us with instructions on how to download GIS files. Do not telephone the GIS to determine the status of your request since it will not speed up the process.
Please note, some GIS data may be confidential by law. Requests for GIS data deemed confidential by law will be submitted to the Texas Attorney General’s Office for review and opinion.
Once you have been granted access to the requested data, you will have the ability to both download files from the “download” folder and upload data to the “upload” folder. If you plan to upload data to the upload folder, please remember to include your desire to upload data within the body of your email.
The Fort Bend County GIS staff will not provide any instructions or help with how to download files or how to use a GIS application. Please utilize the help documentation for WinZip and ArcExplorer.
Much of the following data has been provided to the Fort Bend GIS from numerous city and county agencies. If you desire municipal (city), regional-specific, and/or up-to-date GIS layer information for areas within the county, please contact the GIS professional for the agency or agencies listed below.
