Fort Bend County Commissioner Dexter L. McCoy invites you to the official groundbreaking ceremony for the African-American Memorial at Bates Allen Park in Kendleton, Texas, at 10:30 a.m. on Juneteenth (June 19th) 2024.

Click here for a sneak peek at what is planned for the African-American Memorial. It’s a space that will unite two historic Black cemeteries that were literally crumbling from neglect, pay homage to the Sugar Land 95 and victims of lynching, feature three-story structures covered in Adinkra symbols, offer green spaces for reflection and healing, and even more to memorialize Black stories from the area.
