Sugar Land, Texas, April 14, 2015: Coming this summer, Richmond and Rosenberg residents will have a convenient new way to travel to shopping, medical and service agencies.
Fort Bend County Public Transit announces the start of the Richmond-Rosenberg Bus Service, a point deviation route system that will positively affect the daily lives of thousands of residents. Point deviated routes combine the best of dependable public transit – buses will arrive at set times along a fixed route, yet buses can deviate up to ¾ mile from the routes in order to provide more convenient access to residents. The buses will be ADA compliant.
Three different routes cover most of the area’s vital services for those riders that may have no dependable transportation to medical care, grocery shopping and service agencies. Trip fare will be $1.00 per person for each ride.
Both the cities of Richmond and Rosenberg, along with Ft Bend Commissioners Court, worked many hours with Paulette Shelton, Director for the Fort Bend County Transportation Department, to make sure the majority of residents can now benefit from a transportation service that has set times and stops but can still provide a somewhat customized service for the community.
Upon the final approval of the service at the April 14 Fort Bend Commissioner’s Court, Precinct 4 Commissioner James Patterson enthusiastically told those present that the new service was “going to be awesome.”
Commissioner Richard Morrison, Precinct 1 said afterwards “I am very excited about the new bus routes in Richmond and Rosenberg. It will be a great benefit to the citizens of Precinct 1. I believe the rest of the county will be jealous.”
Area residents are invited learn about the service and voice their comments at two public meetings to be held in the area. St John Fisher Parish will host the first meeting Friday, April 24 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. The church is located at 410 Clay in Richmond Texas. The second meeting will be held Tuesday, April 28 from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, located at 1600 Avenue D in Rosenberg. Those attending that need special accommodations can contact Twila Mouttet at Fort Bend County Transportation, 281-243-6702.
The route map and the schedules, along with sending comments can also be submitted via the transit department’s website at www.FBCTransit.org.
