Honorable Oscar M. Telfair III, Judge
Judge Oscar M. Telfair III was elected on November 5, 2024, to the 387th District Court in Fort Bend County, Texas.
The 387th District Court is a court specializing in hearing family law cases such as – divorce, custody disputes, enforcement actions, Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS) cases, termination and adoption suits, name changes, domestic violence, and paternity actions.
Judge Telfair graduated from Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1982 with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. Judge Telfair continued his studies and obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law in 1985. After graduating law school, Judge Telfair began his legal career as a tax and corporate attorney at Marathon Oil Company, first in Ohio then in Houston, Texas. In 1994, he opened his own law practice, The Law Office of Oscar M. Telfair III, P.C., also known as “The Telfair Firm” and worked as a solo practitioner operating a general practice concentrating in areas of law including family, civil, criminal, tax, real estate, wills and probate, and commercial.
Serving the community has been an integral part of Judge Telfair’s life throughout the years and has been heavily involved with the Fort Bend and surrounding Houston area since moving to Houston in 1987. Judge Telfair believes that it is one’s responsibility to give back to the community. He has been a member of the NAACP – Missouri City and Vicinity Branch since 1987. He has been active with several non-profit corporations that concentrate on meeting the needs of those who are less fortunate and has served on their board of trustees. Some of those organizations include Change Happens, CDC, which assists in providing low-income housing, and Fort Bend Family Promise, a working homeless initiative. In 2020, during the Covid 19 Pandemic, he was led, along with 4 childhood friends, which later increased to a total of 15, to create the non-profit “Bridgeton Area Brothers United (BABU)” to give back to the youth and community where he was born and spent his formative years.
Judge Telfair will continue his service to the community while on the Bench. In the courtroom, he will apply the rule of law first, and where appropriate utilize his faith to render compassionate, unbiased decisions when discretion is necessary. Litigants, parties, and all who enter the Court, will be treated with the highest degree of respect. He will hold this Court to the highest of ethical standards.
He has been an active member of his church where he has been a Deacon for 35 years and Trustee Board member for 6 plus years. He was given the vision to create and facilitate a Men and Boy’s Conference “Molding Great Minds,” which has since 1997, saw attendance increase from 350 attendees to over 450 each year.
Judge Telfair was born and raised in Bridgeton, New Jersey by his grandparents and an aunt and uncle following the separation of his parents and after the passing of his mother at an early age. He is married to Andrea Victoria Telfair. Together they have one son, three daughters and one grandson. He enjoys spending time with family, traveling, and attending sporting events. He also enjoys volunteering for worthy causes and being an active member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
