The Honorable Tony K. Duckett is the presiding Fort Bend County Magistrate Judge. Judge Duckett was appointed by the Fort Bend County Council of Judges on December 5, 2024, and was sworn-in on January 24, 2025.  
Judge Duckett is a native Texan from Longview, Texas and a graduate of Longview High School.  He earned a Bachelor of Political Science from Texas Southern University, and a Master in Business Administration from Prairie View A & M University.  His Juris Doctorate (JD) degree is from Indiana University School of Law.  After working in corporate America, Judge Duckett began his legal career as a general practitioner in civil and criminal courts throughout various counties in the Houston Metropolitan area and southeast Texas.

Judge Duckett values family and community.  He serves as a Deacon at the Sugar Land Church of Christ and sits on the Board of Directors for Hope For Three Autism Advocates, Inc.  He has one wife of 36 years, three adult sons and ten grandchildren (and counting).  He enjoys fishing, camping, RVing, and all things involving his grandkids!

      
Judge Duckett, together with assigned weekend judges, presides over the magistrate dockets including conducting probable cause and extradition hearings as well as local and out-of-county requests for warrants.  Magistrates make individualized assessments to establish reasonable bonds based on the person’s ability to pay, the nature of the charge, and the community safety.

 

Information considered prior to setting bond conditions includes:

  • Alleged facts of the offense
  • Risk assessment of the defendants to commit pre-trial offenses
  • Financial assessments (the defendant’s ability to pay)
  • Defendants’ history of appearing in court

At the time of magistration, requests for Emergency Protective Orders (EPO) may be granted or denied.
The Magistrates’ commitment to following the magistrate rules of law is two-fold:

  • Securing the defendants presence in court
  • Ensuring the safety for the alleged victim and/or the community
