Eligibility

Household Composition

A CIHCP household is a single person living alone or two or more persons living together where legal responsibility for support exists. Household members who are eligible for Medicaid are excluded from the household when determining CIHCP eligibility, but should be listed on the application.

 

Residency

An applicant must live in and intend to remain in Fort Bend County.

 

Income

Fort Bend County is required to cover individuals with countable income of 21% or lower of the federal poverty income level (FPIL). Certain amounts of income may be exempt if there are work related expenses and/or child/dependent care costs.

 

Resources

Household resources may not exceed $2,000.00. If the household includes a disabled member, the limit is $3,000 (must show proof of disability-Physician's Statement).

How to Apply for CIHCP

Call our office at 281-341-6624 so that we can begin the pre-screen and application process.

What happens next?

  • Your application and documentation will be pre-screened by a caseworker.
  • If there is any additional documentation needed to make a complete application, you will be contacted and asked to submit the additional information.
  • Once your application is complete, we will finalize the pre-screen process and contact you to set up an appointment.  (We reserve the right to request additional information at any time during the application or interview process.)
  • If you do not qualify for our services, we will notify you by mail and send you a referral packet. It will contain information to other programs that could be available to you.
Indigent Health Care

The mission of the County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) is to provide a quality, consumer-sensitive, holistic approach to Fort Bend County residents. CIHCP keeps pace with the county's growth and emphasizes education, wellness and preventive care. Services will be well coordinated, accessible, adequately financed, and effective in helping residents gain the maximum degree of personal independence that they are capable of achieving from health and social service systems.

The County Indigent Health Care Program (CIHCP) is mandated by the Indigent Health Care and Treatment Act of 1985. According to Section 61 of the Texas Health and Safety Code, counties that are not fully served by a hospital district or a public hospital are responsible for administering an indigent health care program for indigent residents of all or any portion of the county not served by a hospital district or a public hospital. The program covers only medically necessary services.

A potential client must be a Fort Bend County resident. Their household composition, residency, income and resources will be reviewed to determine eligibility. Learn how to apply for CIHCP.
