The Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program is authorized under Title 1 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 to improve the quality of life for low- and moderate-income areas. The program provides an annual grant to the County on a formula basis to carry out a wide range of community development activities.
Program Objectives
The Community Development Block Grant Entitlement Program has the primary objective of developing viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low-and moderate-income persons. The program is directed toward neighborhood revitalization, economic development, and the provision of improved community facilities and services. Fort Bend County is responsible for developing its own programs and fund priorities but is not limited to activities that address one or more of the following national objectives of the program:

To aid in the prevention or elimination of slums or blight

To meet community development needs having a particular urgency
