Captain Nathan (Nate) McDuell

Captain Nate McDuell is the Commander of Human Resources. He attended the University of Houston – Downtown and currently holds a Master Peace Officer Certification through the State of Texas. He also is a Certified Crime Prevention Specialist with over 3000 hours of specialized training.

Prior to joining the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, Captain McDuell retired honorably from the Houston Police Department (HPD) after 30 years of service, 25 of which in a supervisory capacity.  Captain McDuell served in HPD’s Patrol, Community Services, Storefront Operations, Dispatch, Human Resources, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Unit, Civilian Employment, Background Investigations and Recruiting Divisions.  He also served as lead Public Information Officer and unit supervisor, which consisted of six additional Public Information Officers under several administrations.

Captain McDuell has dedicated his life to public service.  During his career, he organized and led numerous public service projects raising the spirits and funds for numerous charitable organizations. One such organization is the Texas Special Olympics.

After several years in retirement, Captain McDuell was inspired by Sheriff Eric Fagan’s (a former HPD colleague) historic election as Fort Bend County Sheriff and wanted to continue his service to the community.  Sheriff Fagan graciously provided that opportunity; a privilege for which he is eternally grateful.

As a strong advocate of Community Oriented Policing, Captain McDuell looks forward to a bright future serving the citizens of Fort Bend County.
